Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 16, 2026
TheMoneyMitra ("we", "us", "our") provides a personal expense-tracking and budgeting app. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using TheMoneyMitra, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information We Collect
Account information
- Phone number, if you sign in with phone OTP.
- Email address and, if provided, name and profile photo — from Google Sign-In, Sign in with Apple, or entered directly.
- A Google or Apple account identifier used to recognize your account on future sign-ins. We never receive or store your Google or Apple password.
Financial and transaction data
- Transactions you enter manually (amount, merchant, category, date, payment method, notes).
- Transactions extracted from bank-statement CSV files you choose to upload.
- Transactions detected from your Gmail inbox, if you connect Gmail (see "Gmail access" below).
- Savings goals and budget information you create in the app.
Gmail access
If you connect Gmail, we request read-only access via Google's official API. We use this access solely to identify transactional emails (bank debit/credit alerts, payment confirmations) and extract structured transaction details — amount, merchant, date, and similar fields. We do not read, store, or share the full content of unrelated emails, and we never send email, modify your inbox, or share your Gmail data with third parties for advertising. You can disconnect Gmail access at any time from Settings, which also revokes our access token.
Device and subscription information
- A device identifier, device name, and platform (iOS/Android), used to show you the list of devices signed into your account and let you manage them.
- Subscription status (trial, active, expired) from Apple App Store or Google Play, via our payments partner RevenueCat. We do not receive or store your card number or other payment details — those are handled entirely by Apple, Google, and RevenueCat under their own privacy policies.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide the core app functionality — tracking, categorizing, and summarizing your transactions.
- To sync your data across your devices.
- To detect recurring bills and subscriptions from your transaction history.
- To manage your account, subscription, and support requests.
- To send you account-related notifications (e.g. sync results, budget alerts) if you enable them.
We do not use your financial data for advertising, and we do not sell your personal information to anyone.
3. Who We Share Information With
We share limited information with the following service providers, solely to operate the app:
- Google — for Google Sign-In and, if you connect it, read-only Gmail access.
- Apple — for Sign in with Apple and App Store subscription processing.
- RevenueCat — to manage and verify your subscription status.
- MSG91 — to deliver SMS one-time passcodes for phone sign-in.
- Our infrastructure/hosting provider, to run the servers that store your data.
We do not share your data with data brokers or advertising networks, and we do not sell personal information.
4. Data Retention and Deletion
You can deactivate your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account. This immediately signs you out and deactivates access to your account; your data is retained but inaccessible unless you sign back in, which automatically reactivates it. If you would like your underlying data permanently erased rather than deactivated, contact us at hello@themoneymitra.com and we will process your request.
5. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) between the app and our servers, and encrypted storage of sensitive credentials such as Gmail access tokens. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Not Financial Advice
TheMoneyMitra is a personal tracking and budgeting tool. It does not provide investment, tax, or financial advice, and nothing in the app should be treated as a personalized recommendation. We are not a registered investment advisor.
7. Children's Privacy
TheMoneyMitra is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will remove it.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data, or to object to certain processing. You can exercise most of these directly in the app (editing or deleting transactions, disconnecting Gmail, deactivating your account) or by contacting us at hello@themoneymitra.com.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do, and for material changes we'll provide additional notice in the app.
