Getting Started

What is TheMoneyMitra? expand_more
TheMoneyMitra is a personal expense-tracking and budgeting app. You log transactions — by typing them in, scanning a receipt, importing a bank statement, or importing from Gmail — and the app categorizes and summarizes your spending so you can see where your money goes.
Do I need to connect my bank account? expand_more
No. TheMoneyMitra never asks for your net-banking credentials and doesn't connect to your bank directly. You bring your transaction data in yourself — manual entry, a CSV/bank-statement file you export from your bank, or read-only Gmail import — and everything stays under your control.
How do I sign in? expand_more
Phone number with a one-time SMS code, Google Sign-In, or Sign in with Apple — whichever you used when you created your account.

Adding Transactions

How do I add a transaction manually? expand_more
From the Home screen, tap the add button and fill in the amount, merchant, category, date, and payment method. It's saved instantly and syncs to your other devices.
Can I scan a receipt instead of typing everything in? expand_more
Yes. When adding a transaction, choose "Scan Receipt" and take a photo — the app reads the amount, merchant, and date off it on your device and pre-fills the form for you to review and save. The photo is processed entirely on your phone (Apple Vision on iOS, Google ML Kit on Android) and never leaves your device or gets sent to our servers.
How does bank-statement / CSV import work? expand_more
Export a statement from your bank as a CSV file, then import it from Settings. The app parses it into a list of transactions for you to review — nothing is added to your history until you confirm. Works with the CSV exports from HDFC, ICICI, SBI, Axis, Kotak, Zerodha, and other standard formats.
How does Gmail import work, and is it safe? expand_more
If you connect Gmail, we request read-only access through Google's official API, used solely to find transactional emails (payment confirmations, debit/credit alerts) and pull out the amount, merchant, and date. We never read unrelated email, never send mail from your account, and never modify your inbox. You can disconnect Gmail access anytime from Settings, which also revokes our access token. See the Privacy Policy for full details.

Categories

How does auto-categorization work? expand_more
New transactions are matched against a merchant-keyword list (e.g., "Swiggy" → Food) and categorized automatically where there's a confident match. It's a lightweight, rule-based system, not full AI — so it won't catch everything, and you can always fix it.
Can I fix a wrong category or add my own? expand_more
Yes to both. Tap any transaction to change its category, and the app remembers your correction for that merchant next time. You can also create, rename, or delete your own categories from Settings → Manage Categories.

Sync & Devices

Does my data sync across devices? expand_more
Yes — sign in with the same account on another device and your transactions, categories, and edits sync automatically. The app also works fully offline; anything you add without a connection syncs the next time you're online.

Subscription & Billing

What's the difference between Basic and Premium? expand_more
TheMoneyMitra has a free Basic plan and a paid Premium plan, which includes a free trial (currently 7 days). Premium is billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play — we never process payment details ourselves.
How do I cancel or manage my subscription? expand_more
In the app, go to Settings → Premium Plan → Manage Subscription, which opens your Apple ID or Google Play subscription settings directly. You can also manage it anytime from your Apple ID or Google Play account outside the app. Refunds are handled by Apple's or Google's own refund policies — we can't issue them directly.

Account & Security

Is my data secure? expand_more
All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted (HTTPS/TLS), and sensitive credentials like your Gmail access token are stored encrypted. See the Privacy Policy for the full picture of what's collected and why.
How do I delete my account? expand_more
Settings → Privacy & Security → Delete Account deactivates it immediately. If you want your data permanently erased rather than deactivated, email hello@themoneymitra.com — full details on both options are on the Delete Your Account page.
